The yardstick will be used to measure the distance from where a putt stopped short of a hole to the hole itself to make the putt. It can not be used to move the ball closer to the hole.

Each team will be able to buy a yardstick, 2 per team.

Example:  All the players on a team putt for a birdie, all players miss the hole, but one ball is close.  The yardstick may be used to measure the distance from the ball to the hole. The distance is scratched off the yardstick, and the team is deemed to have made a birdie.
